What If Your Beliefs Aren’t True?

What if instead of representing reality, your beliefs were a way of seeing something that led you to a specific way of being and acting? What if your beliefs were like filtering lenses that enabled you to see certain things while hiding other things? What if you could choose your beliefs based on what created the best consequences for all concerned?

Beliefs are certainly powerful forces in our lives. They motivate us and inhibit us. They drive us and judge us. They empower us and limit us. We even go to war over our beliefs when we believe they are true.

Where do your beliefs come from? Do you believe what your parents believe or what you’ve been told to believe in school, or church, or on TV? Are you willing to shift your beliefs if you get better information? Are you willing to let go of your beliefs if you see that they are causing yourself or others harm?

Have you ever stopped to notice that many of your beliefs flatly contradict each other? If they do, how do you decide which ones to keep and which ones to change?

How can so many people hold such widely differing beliefs and all believe that they are true?

Pretty much everything you think or do relates to a belief you are holding at the moment. If you are not experiencing and expressing love, compassion, wisdom, peace, and your highest potential, your beliefs are a good place to look for the cause.
