Meditation Myths Unmasked

Meditation practice is more widespread than ever. The research supporting the use of meditation for relaxation, stress reduction, and developing your inner skills of concentration, imagination, intuition, and self-healing continue to pile up.

Yet there are still some widespread misconceptions about what meditation is, what it does, and how it works. Many people associate meditation with esoteric groups or something “woo-wwo.” Sure, there are some far-out groups that practice meditation and not all meditation practices are for everyone.

However, the heart of meditation is practicing focused attention for a period of time to increase your quality of life. The meditation style I teach is about learning to relax, smile, breathe, and feel inside your body. It is a natural human ability that develops inner skills that will help you in every area of your life. Maybe most importantly, meditation teaches you to be present, appreciate, and engage in life with greater peace, love, wisdom, and purpose.

Last month, I was interviewed on the Courage Cocktail Radio Show by Lee Anne McClymont. In this interview we explored common misconceptions about meditation and the amazing benefits meditation has to offer. You’ll also get insight into how to make meditation an effective tool in your life.
