Learn Your Emotional Signals for Authentic Guidance

Imagine yourself as a bio-energetic information system. As supervisor of this system, your task is to manage the smooth flow of information and energy through you. Your emotions are key signals that help you manage the flow of your life and keep you in balance on your path.

We’ve talked about approaching your emotions with an attitude of curiosity and an openness to learn what they have to tell you. If you’re not accustomed to tuning into your emotions, you may not know how to read what your emotions are saying. Like anything of value, it takes time and practice to gain the skills of emotional discernment.

Here’s a summary of four primary emotions we’ve discussed, along with their felt quality, and questions you can ask to discern why they are arising at this moment. These questions are inspired by Karla McLaren’s brilliant book “The Language of Emotions“:

    1. Anger: Strong and firm outward flowing energy that supports your personal boundaries and the boundaries of others whom you care for. When you feel angry ask yourself: “What needs to be protected or restored?”

    2. Sadness: Soft, downward flowing energy that enables you to let go of what no longer serves you so that new energy and possibilities can emerge. When you feel sad ask yourself: “What needs to be released so I can flow forward?”

    3. Passion: Rising expansive energy that reaches outward to form connections and create new possibilities. When you feel passion, ask yourself: “What do I want to experience, share, grow, or create?”

    4. Fear: Sensitive intuitive energy within and around your personal space. When you feel afraid, ask yourself: “What action needs to be taken right now?”

As you prepare to enter the New Year, it’s an auspicious time to make a commitment to tune into your emotional signals to help you navigate your authentic path.

    Many blessings on your journey,

    Kevin Schoeninger
