Do You Really Get What You Expect?

    Have you noticed that certain people seem to have good fortune and success follow them around? For others it seems like there are challenges at every turn. Why is that?

    Certainly the actions people take are a big part of it. Some people are busy making things happen while others may sit by and bemoan the state of their life. Yet there’s more to it. Many people work hard and don’t reap material abundance, while others seem to have everything handed to them.

    Could it be that our subconscious expectations for ourselves and for life are an important piece of the equation? Is this true in your own life?

    Do you notice that the same type of events seem to always happen to you? Do you find yourself repeating a certain level of success, happiness, or well-being? Do you seem to have set-points that define comfort zones in the different areas of your life? Every time you are close to breaking out of that comfort zone does something happen to set you back into it?

    That’s fine if you like where you’re at and what’s going on. However, is there any area of your life that you’d like to improve and expand? If so, you might find that uncovering your subconscious expectations will lead you to a quantum leap forward.

    So how do you do that?

    First, notice patterns in that area of your life. Notice if similar results happen to you again and again.

    Second, can you trace that experience to some defining moment early in your life?

    Third, can you sum up in words a limiting belief or expectation that you have in that area of your life?

    Fourth, write down a phrase that counters your limiting belief.

    Finally, what action can you take to grow your counter belief and create a new pattern in your life?

    Even if it’s a small action, if you do it consistently while holding your new expectation in mind, it can open up a new world of possibility.
