Creating Your Reality: How Far Do You Want To Take It?

I was driving back to my old house to pickup some stuff the other day and guess what happened? …

- I got stuck in motorway traffic for nearly 3 hours!

Later that evening, I was talking with my friend about manifestation and the power of belief …

“Matt, YOU manifested that traffic jam!” he told me with conviction.

“Oh really?!? So I suppose if I lean over and slap you HARD across the face – YOU manifested the pain?” icon wink Creating Your Reality: How Far Do You Want To Take It?

I think there’s a real danger of getting silly with this manifestation stuff …

Of course, it was my decision to move house and it was my choice to travel on that day and time. I’m not saying that we don’t contribute to our personal circumstances and the situations in which we find ourselves.

But for me, the idea that I manifested the traffic jam is an irrational misinterpretation of the law of attraction. Yes, we’re all part of one energy field, and yes, there are many interconnections and relationships we cannot begin to fathom.

Certainly when it comes to deciding what’s POSSIBLE in your life and in the realm of human interactions, we know our beliefs and expectations play a HUGE part.

Believe you can and you will.

If you believe and expect to create the life you want, odds are you will find a way. Amen my brothers and sisters icon smile Creating Your Reality: How Far Do You Want To Take It?

Before you meet with that friend or go into that meeting, having the expectation (or belief) that things will work out WILL cause your odds of success to shoot up dramatically.

Sure we create our reality through what we EXPECT and what we PROJECT. Beyond that, I’ll leave it to you to decide what’s sensible and what works for you. Click the comment button at the end of this post to share your views.

For me, the important thing is NOT whether I created something “bad”, it’s that I take responsibility for what I want to create in the present. Whether or not I manifested the traffic jam to me is irrelevant.

While I was sitting in that traffic jam, the only question that really mattered was, “What do I NOW choose?” Same thing applies to you in your life when something “bad” happens.

In my case, I said to myself…

“Yes, I’m stuck in traffic but I now allow the traffic to move again freely. I now choose to let go of any frustration or restlessness. I now choose to relax and focus on my breathing and enjoy the stillness of being here.”

However far you want to take this stuff, remember never to punish yourself for your current reality. Punishing yourself only makes things worse and does nothing to turn things around. Instead, accept responsibility for what you choose from where you are.

And if you are seeing any repeating patterns in your life that you don’t want, well maybe it’s time to flip open the hood and take a look at the beliefs that are driving you.

I’ve been working with Amanda’s technique recently and it’s been working really well. The first time I tried it I fell so deeply asleep I couldn’t remember a thing but I woke up with the sense that a lot had shifted!

How Your Focus Really Creates The World Around You

Yes, it’s true …

Your focus determines what shows up in your world … BUT … Is there more to our focus than the pretty pictures and positive chit-chat we work so hard to hold in mind?

Sure there is …

Just like an iceberg, I think most of our focus is going on below the surface at the unconscious level – through the FILTERS of our mind-body.

Reality is infinitely complex, so we filter it down into manageable chunks with our values, our attitudes, our language and crucially …

Our BELIEFS.

A critical part of creating your life the way you want it is to clear any and all limiting beliefs. Amanda Goldston is the creator of a six-step process that does just that (and she’s this month’s featured guest at SpiritualGrowthMonthly.com).

I recommend you take a look at her site and read about her technique for clearing limiting beliefs:

Why Trying To Control Your Thoughts Is Completely Mental, OK?

Since the hit movie “The Secret” everyone is talking about the law of attraction and how to “manifest” what you want.

In the first part of the movie, we’re introduced to the principle that “Thoughts are things”.

Maybe that’s why many people try to manifest their desires entirely by manipulating their thoughts. Today I want to talk about why trying to control your thoughts actually creates more suffering and the real “secret” of effective manifesting.

First of all, this ridiculous idea of “controlling your thoughts”…

We each have somewhere in the region of 2 million thoughts every day. Do you really think you can control all of that? Do you even know what your next thought is going to be? For me, trying to control every thought is a waste of energy and creates it’s own problems.

Rather than trying to control your thoughts (which sets you up for more negative thoughts), far better to change your relationship to your thoughts. Practice stepping back and observing your thoughts without prejudice and you’ll begin to free yourself from their tyranny. That’s why, meditation is a crucial piece of this puzzle. I’ll explain in a minute.

But even more crucially than that, your thoughts are NOT the key factor when it comes to manifesting new realities.

Picture a captain and crew exploring the horizon. Who gives the orders and who runs the ship? Yes, the captain is in charge and the crew runs the ship.

When the captain and crew are working well together, the captain gives the orders and the crew makes it happen immediately. When captain and crew don’t work together, the journey takes longer and there might even be a mutiny!

Your TOTAL focus determines your reality – not just your thoughts.

The real challenge is that only about 5% of your focus is what you’re thinking in your head. There’s hundreds maybe thousands of crew but only one captain.

That’s why on the surface people might want to be wealthy, but deep down they have limiting beliefs around money. They might think thoughts of attracting the perfect relationship, but deep down they might have repressed anger toward the opposite sex etc.

For me, your internal congruency is EVERYTHING when it comes to manifesting.

If there ever was a “secret”, it is to harness the power of your entire being, not just your surface thoughts.

I believe to do that effectively we need to let go of old patterns, even our notion of self and allow ourselves to be transformed from the ground up. Just like anything else, this takes practice.

For me, a daily mind-body practice is essential. This allows me to create the space where I feel anything is possible from my core, I connect to Source and get the guidance and direction so I sense where I’m going.

I re-energize and re-focus on what’s right for me to attract. Plus I get to be happy in the here and now which is always a good thing.
